]]>You may have noticed a new component in the Chargify UI - the Prepaid Usage component!
Prepaid usage allows you to maintain a recurring, predictable revenue stream while still allowing your customers to be charged based on consumption. This is achieved through an upfront fee that is based on a quantity (or prepayment) sometimes thought of as a commitment. Your customer then draws down against their commitment. Once their entire commitment amount is used up they are charged overage fees at a ‘burst over’ rate. Overage charges are then calculated and included in your customers' regular billing cycle and invoice, this allows you and your customer to maintain a single source of truth on what they are consuming and being billed for.
With prepaid usage, your customers' prepaid amounts can 're-up' every month (I commit to 50 server hours each month) or can extend out for longer periods of time (I commit to 550 server hours for the year).
Companies often move to prepaid usage models because they can incentivize their customers to increase upfront commitments or prepaid quantities, by offering a reduced price point for prepaid units or an increased rate for overage units. It is also possible to allow your customers' prepaid quantities to expire or rollover to a following period.
Our Chargify prepaid usage functionality also supports your revenue and accounting compliance needs. As your customer consumes their prepaid amounts, Chargify tracks their consumption for appropriate revenue reporting and recognition. This is all handled with a single component in the Chargify system, reducing the complexity of setup and maintenance for your team.
To learn more about the prepaid usage billing model, see our documentation >

date for external payments. In the UI, users can provide an effective date via Invoices > Invoice Show > Record Payment > Record External Payment. The received_on
date will be set to the current day by default, but the user can backdate by changing the received_on
field.
For historic reporting, this field has been backfilled with the created_date
date in order to facilitate reporting from this field; however, the received_on
date can only be different from the created_date
going forward.
In the UI, received_on
will be exposed in the /payments

Adding to Chargify's native Avalara functionality, our Product Team was recently working on a beta feature with some of our customers. We are happy to announce that this new feature is now in general availability!
You can now utilize a 'tax included' option when setting your final prices in your Product Catalog within the UI. For example, if you want the final price (with taxes included) to be $20 for one of your subscription offerings, you can choose the "Tax included in price?" when building out your price point. Your customer will be billed $20, and in turn you will be collecting your subscription base price + tax.

The default behavior can be set in your Site Settings. However, behavior for individual and ad-hoc invoices can be overridden. Payment instructions can be sent via API with the payment_instrucions
parameter. If payment instructions are not specified, the settings for the invoice will default to the site settings.
First, the Product Families view are now listed from newest to oldest. We heard from our customers that your newer Product Families are the ones you work with the most, so this will cut back from having your team navigate to the bottom of the list or several pages in to get to what you're looking for.
Second, after editing a Product, Component, or Coupon on the Products Page, this page will not return the user to the same place they left off. You will no longer be returned to the main Products Page after submitting an edit.
Third, converted amounts are now provided when configuring definitive pricing. This will save the user from having to check fx rates outside of Chargify.

]]>Last month we released a new endpoint to send invoices via API to mimic the behavior of the "Send Invoice" button within the UI. This endpoint enables you to programmatically deliver ad-hoc invoices as well as the re-send of auto-generated invoices, thus giving you control of when to send out an invoice.
As we continue adding new API endpoints, we are excited to announce new filter options on exposed event types on an invoice. You can now filter for multiple event types on an invoice (e.g. issue_invoice, apply_credit_note, refund_invoice) using a comma separated list. Previously, you were able to filter by only 1 invoice event.

]]>We understand that charges can occur outside of a normal billing cycle and therefore provide the functionality for you to send ad-hoc or one-time invoices. Many customers utilize ad-hoc invoices to sell services or items on a non-recurring basis to their customer base. We are excited to announce that our Product Team has made some exciting developments to these types of invoices! You can now backdate ad-hoc invoices using both the UI and API.
If performing this in the UI, you go under Subscriptions > Invoices > Create an Invoice. There is a new input field for Issue Date in the top right of the ad-hoc invoice within the UI. The issue date will be set by default to the current date. In order to back date the issue date, you will use the date selector functionality by clicking into the Issue Date input field.
Alternatively, you can also backdate the issue date via the API with the "Create an Invoice Endpoint". If no issue date parameter is passed, then the issue date will default to the current date. If you desire to back date, you can simply pass an issue_date parameter of any date in the past.
The primary use case for backdating ad-hoc invoices is when you experience a delay in issuing an ad-hoc invoice but would still like for the invoice to be due at the same time it would have been had there been no delay. As an example, one-off usage is incurred but not charged until 7 days later and you want the due_date to reflect your standard net terms of 15 days. In this case, you could back date the ad-hoc invoice to the day the usage was incurred and set the due_date to Day 15.
For more information on backdating the issue date on ad-hoc invoices, see our documentation here>
Now, you can see it in action. Here is an end-to-end walkthrough video that will take you through:

To better enable your sales team to sell specialized deals, we have now added the ability to create ad-hoc or one-time invoices from Salesforce. These one-time invoices can have custom line item pricing as well as unique invoice billing and shipping addresses for added flexibility. Any time an invoice is created in Salesforce, it will automatically be synced over to Chargify.
For more information about our Salesforce integration, see our documentation here>
]]>Adding Custom Fields
Custom fields can be used to enrich your Chargify data to enable more granular reporting and filtering of your subscription and billing data. Custom fields can be added via a few different methods:
Find out more about custom fields here.
The Chargify API endpoint allows you to stream in any third-party data (i.e. Salesforce, Zendesk, Jira, your application, etc.) to Chargify Business Intelligence. Documentation on how to create the endpoint and start streaming data from your own applications and other systems can be found here. Third-party data streamed to Chargify becomes available to query and visualize in the same way as our built-in data sources.
Apache Kafka Endpoint Method
Chargify Business Intelligence is built on top of the Keen technology (powered by Apache Kafka), giving you the option to connect over Kafka protocol programmatically. You can use the endpoint to programmatically stream external data to Chargify Business Intelligence over a widely supported and robust protocol. By leveraging the Chargify Kafka endpoint and stream mirroring, you can stream part of that data to Chargify Business Intelligence and analyze it with your billing data.
In the near future, we will provide tutorials on how to stream in data via this method using Airbyte, an open-source data integration pipeline.
Interested in getting access to Chargify Business Intelligence? Please reach out to your Customer Success Manager or support@chargify.com.
For more information on Chargify Business Intelligence, see our documentation here>
Chargify Business Intelligence enables you to create custom data exports, so exactly what you need is all in one place. This saves you the time of having to aggregate multiple exports together and reduces the file size, making it easier to work with. To create a custom export, use the ‘Extraction’ analysis type. Extractions allow you to pick the ‘Properties to Extract’, apply filters, and set the timeframe. Each property can be dragged into the desired order.
Once you have finished configuring the metric, you can preview a set number of records, download the result as a CSV, or extract the result to an email. Extractions can also be added to dashboards to serve as a drill down that provides the raw data of a chart as context.

Chargify Business Intelligence (BI) enables you to perform custom analysis on your Chargify data and align it to your reporting framework by creating metrics. Metrics query your data based on selectable parameters and return a visualization. Chargify BI offers 10 chart types with variants (e.g. stacked, grouped, percentage) allowing you to present your data in an easy-to-understand format.
You can quickly build metrics using our Explorer tool. Simply select the analysis to perform, the data to analyze, and the timeframe for the analysis. Then, add filters and groupings to uncover the granular, segmented insights you need to drive data-backed growth.
Metrics can be saved and easily run for a real-time view of your business. Add your saved metrics to a dashboard and then securely share information with key internal or external stakeholders.
You can now view and generate a proforma invoice prior to a group's next billing period, keeping you and the customer up-to-date on all of their consolidated subscriptions. If changes need to be made, just make the adjustments to the subscription and regenerate the proforma invoice with the new pricing.
For more information on Proforma Invoices for Subscription Groups, see our documentation here>

Once you are ready, SEPA will allow you to take payment for your subscriptions in three easy steps:
Contact your Customer Success Manager or Chargify Support to enable this new payment method. You must have an active account to accept SEPA direct debit with Stripe.
The latest update to our Salesforce integration allows you to activate all subscriptions created under one opportunity record to flow over to Chargify. This prevents your sales team in closing-won multiple opportunities when more than 1 subscription is involved, saving them time so they can focus on what they do best: selling.
